Why Participate in the Hospital Pilot Program?

Studies show that retro commissioning can result in a significant improvement in building energy performance. Through the Program we provide engineers - at no cost to you - who are experienced in hospital building operation and can determine operational and energy use inefficiencies. Benefits of participating in the Program include:

  • Establishing performance metrics, such as the building's energy benchmark, that owners can use to assess and improve energy utilization
  • Improved documentation and inherent understanding of system operation, facilitating further achievements in energy performance
  • Insight on the use of diagnostic tools and procedures
  • Improved control systems

QuEST's engineering analysis in the hospital market segment has produced energy conservation measures in the following areas:

  • Chiller and chilled water system optimization
  • Implementation and optimization of economizer cycle
  • Addition of variable frequency drives to system pumps and fans
  • Steam trap evaluation and repairs
  • Laundry compressed air modifications
  • Correction of simultaneous cooling and heating
  • Boiler combustion analysis and corrections

NO-COST SERVICES

  • A thorough building operations assessment performed by qualified engineering professionals
  • Documentation of targeted systems and procedures to keep your facility running efficiently

REBATES FOR MEASURE INSTALLATION

  • Up to 100% rebates for measures with short economic payback
  • Partial to full rebates for measures with the simple paybacks longer than one year

OTHER PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Better building systems operations, improved occupant comfort, and reduced service calls
  • Tools to inform operators about building performance to quickly identify and remedy problems
  • Assistance in preparing ENERGY STAR Building certification applications, and follow-up by a professional engineer

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be a PG&E customer paying the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Public Purpose Fund charges on your utility bill
  • Building should be approximately 100,000 square feet or larger in conditioned space, with an operating energy management and control system
  • An initial audit performed by QuEST must show energy savings potential
